“Good Bones” is the poem that Smith wrote shortly before the shooting at the Pulse Nightclub. After the massacre, her poem went viral, and she had visibility for her writing for the first time. While this momentum furthered her career, it also caused contention in her marriage. Her ex-husband accused her of being famous and vicariously upending the role she was supposed to play as a mother.
