What is the importance of Mr. Lee's bookstore in the novel, You’ve Reached Sam?

Julie and Tristan both work at the Mr. Lee's bookstore where they became friends. She finds solace in being in a bookstore given her interest in writing. Mr. Lee is also a kindly figure who gives Julie her prized leather notebook and encourages her not to stop writing even after losing Sam.
