Julie’s memory box of Sam services as a physical space to hold his spirit after his passing. The physicality of the memory box causes Julie pain because she wishes she could still interact physically with Sam and his body, not merely his things and his voice. As she grows and learns how to manage her grief, she learns that she can carry Sam’s memory in her heart more than in any physical item.
