Although George loves Mary very much, she, at first, seems to be a pushover. Mary is very quiet and tends to do whatever George asks of her. She is supportive of his dreams and helps him to achieve them by being a constant encouragement to him. Mary remains calm even when George has to give Faye her song. At the end of the film, Mary shows that she is not such a pushover when she tells Sam that George will take a part in the show. Mary shows her support and love by pushing George to accept the role.
