Sammy is a regular customer at Small's Paradise in Harlem, which is where Malcolm meets him. Malcolm helps Sammy by introducing a few men to "his" prostitutes, and in return Sammy becomes something of a criminal mentor. Sammy suggests Malcolm start selling marijuana, and then gives him cocaine, escalating Malcolm's drug habit. Sammy later introduces Malcolm to West Indian Archie.
