Who is Adam and how is he described?

Adam is Casey's landlord. He is a lawyer who lives in the large house in front of the pottery shed that she rents. He is arrogant and seems to enjoy making Casey feel small. He was formerly involved with Casey's brother, and uses him for sex later in the novel.
