What new conflict is introduced via Adam in Chapter 33?

Adam informs Casey that he intends to raise the rent on her pottery shed in the backyard. This causes conflict because Casey cannot afford higher rent. The conflict gets worse when Adam decides to sell the shed and gives Casey notice that it will be listed in three weeks.
