On what basis does Luke end his relationship with Casey in the novel, Writers & Lovers?

Luke is the writer who Casey meets at the Red Barn residency in the Berkshires six weeks after her mother's death. Falling in love with him almost immediately, Casey becomes convinced her mother sent him to her. Their attachment is wild and rapid. However just before Luke leaves Red Barn, he ends the affair, insisting their relationship is demonic.
