Wringer

wringer

When Beans has his tenth birthday party, he invites the gang to his house and then leaves with them to find Farquar. Again, The Treatment is part of the story. How does Beans anticipate The Treatment and his birthday in general? How is Beans' reaction different from that of Palmer?

Palmer observes that Beans searches out Farquar to make sure he receives The Treatment. Beans explains it is not really a birthday unless his arm has been punched ten times by Farquar's knuckle. Beans is jubilant after the punching and announces with joy that he is ten-years-old and finally a wringer. Palmer wonders why Beans is in such a hurry to receive The Treatment knowing how much it hurts. He is also acutely aware of his own fast-approaching tenth birthday when he must face being a wringer. This is another example of how different the boys are.
