Dorothy believes Palmer is a hero because of everything his has done to protect Nipper. This includes feeding and caring for him and protecting him from the gang. Dorothy explains that with everything Palmer has been doing in school to continue to get detentions, including tickling the teacher, he is probably the naughtiest student in school. Palmer does not feel like a hero. He is worried all the time about Nipper, getting into trouble at school, and just wants the school year to end.
