What does land represent to Wulfric in the novel, World Without End?

To men like Wulfric, land symbolizes stability and security, and he is so desperate to have it that he accepts less-than-ideal terms when Ralph finally grants Wulfric a piece of land to call his own. While the land in general holds this symbolism, Wulfric's family farm is a specific piece of land that he is desperate to hold.
