Who are Dolce and Red Boy in the novel, Word of Mouse?

Dolce is Hailey's dog and Red Boy is her cat. The two of them are atypical in the manner in which they treat other animals. They live together in peace and they do not chase the mice. They act as a foil to Lucifer and the guard dog at the lab who like to torture animals which are smaller than they are just because they can do so.
