The negative image of the Lamina Lab foreshadows that something terrible is going to happen inside the lab’s doors when Isaiah returns. When Isaiah goes back to the lab, readers know that there is a chance that his plan will not work because it is such a dark and evil place. Thus, it is the perfect setting to show how Isaiah has evolved as it houses all of the dangers he has faced one by one, all in one place.
