Dawn is a young girl from the Mattapoisett community in the future, who Connie believes strongly resembles Angelina. On the occasions when Dawn appears, Connie has difficulty believing that Angelina and Dawn are different people. The resemblance between the two characters is a strong contributing factor to the novel's overall sense that Connie is creating the world of Mattapoisett out of memory and longing for that which, in her real world, has been taken from her.
