For what reason is Connie placed in Belleview in the novel, Woman on the Edge of Time?

In the past, Connie was committed to Belleview because of her actual violence towards her daughter and to which she is again committed, but only briefly, in the present as the result of her presumed violence towards her niece's pimp.
