Who is Chase from Wizard's First Rule and what is their importance?

The huge boundary warden Dell Brandstone is nicknamed Chase because that is what he does best — chases huge, frightening things through the boundary and kills them. Chase, Richard's best friend, is a huge bear-like man, heavily armed at all times and dressed in chain mail. He accompanies Zedd, Richard and Kahlan on their quest, providing much-needed muscle. Yet, he also has a softer side. He is married and has a half-dozen active, laughing children. It is Chase who finally wins the trust of the orphan Rachel. After defeating Darken Rahl, Chase takes Rachel home to live with his family including his devoted wife Emma.
