With this story filling the role as a prequel to Grisham’s novel The Whistler, the entire story serves as exposition to that novel. In relation to itself, the story is mostly exposition. There is no technical “action” since the story is set in a courtroom and details a murder trial. The murders and investigation have already taken place.
