What happens every year on Wishing Day?

On Wishing Day, which occurs on the first of May each year, everyone in the neighborhood comes to attach a piece of cloth or a piece of paper to one of Red's branches. Each object attached to one of Red's branches has a wish written on it, one that the wisher hopes will come true as a result of the luck brought by Red's centuries-old presence.
