Red introduces Samar in Chapter 8 by saying, "I have one more community member, although 'visitor' is probably a better way to describe Samar" (27). Red then tells the reader that soon after Samar's family had moved into the blue house, Samar had begun sneaking out at night to luxuriate in the night air beneath Red's branches. Red calls these nightly events visits, perhaps suggesting that readers consider taking up a similar practice in order to appreciate fully the majesty of the natural world, even in the most crowded of cities.
