Finn’s emails are symbols used to foreshadow Diana’s hospitalization with Covid. Throughout Part One, Diana receives emails from Finn that mainly detail the horrors of Covid. They vary in length and arrive sporadically. Diana attributes their randomness to sparse cellular service on Isabela. However, once she is extubated and lucid, Diana realizes that the emails are from the moments that Finn spoke to her while she was unconscious.
