Why did Lame Bull marry Teresa in the novel, Winter in the Blood?

Part of the reason Lame Bull married Teresa was so he could own some of the best land in the valley. Being a prosperous cattleman makes him happy. He is efficient, practical, and crafty, although Teresa complains about his sloppy habits.
