How does the author use foreshadowing in Winter Prey?

A sociopath named "The Iceman" goes to the family home of Claudia and Frank LaCourt, kills the entire family and burns the house to the ground. This pretty much foreshadows the Iceman's shenanigans for the rest of the story.
