How was Churchill able to qualify for British armed services?

Churchill was a sickly child and a poor athlete. He had a hard time qualifying for British armed services. The saving grace for Churchill was his tutor, Captain Walter James. Captain James drilled Churchill. Through rote learning Churchill was able to gain entrance into the British armed services.
