What does Trey's attack on Ema reveal in the book, Win: A Novel?

Trey's attack causes Win to accept the familial love he feels for Ema. Readers see this when he says, "He came for my daughter. My. Daughter" (371). In the past Win kept his distance from her by calling her his biological daughter and saying that he had nothing to do with her being the person she is today.
