The author uses the cartoon movie to symbolize the divisions between hopes and realities. Walt says that the most recent movie he saw was an animated film in which the people in a man’s dream attempt to keep the man asleep so that the dream people will not cease to exist. However, this plan backfires. This film symbolically foreshadows the hardships that Sidra faces in the narrative.
