William Shakespeare
What is shakespeare trying to show in a midsummer night's dream with all the contrast? (eg: night/day, puck/bottom, helena/hermia, villagers/lovers/faries, etc.)

Contrast is an important motif in this play. The idea of contrast defines characters, emotions, and tone in the play. It is through contrast that the chaos is weaved and it is through contrast that there is harmony again.
