Vanessa, Blake’s lover before he met Sam, is vindictive and bitter that Blake married Sam, and she is out for revenge. Ironically, it was Vanessa's machinations - intended to trap Blake into marrying her - that result in Sam getting pregnant and solidifying Sam and Blake's true love for one another.
