How does the author use foreshadowing in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf??

In Act I, George practically begs Martha not to do the bit about the kid. Though we do not learn the facts immediately, their veiled arguments about "the kid" foreshadow the revelation that "the kid" is not real..... he doesn't exist, but rather, is a shared and private (between the two of them) illusion.
