What happened to Sara's mother in the novel, White Bird: A Wonder Story?

Sara's mother initially wanted her family to remain in France because it was her home. She mistakenly did believe that her family would be safe. When the Nazis rounded up the Jewish people in France, Sara's mother was separated from the family during a round up. She later died in Auschwitz.
