What does the wolf represent to Sara in the novel, White Bird: A Wonder Story?

The wolf represents Sara's mom. When Vincent tried to shoot at and kill Sara in the woods, she prayed and asked her mom for help. Soon after, a wolf came and attacked Vincent to stop him from trying to kill Sara.
