Rambo is a movie character who illustrates the heroic connotations of whiteness in the eponymous film series. He is a "patriot without, it seems, a country," (159) having returned from Vietnam a decorated soldier to find himself rejected by mainstream American society. Rambo's flight into the forest, recalling images of Vietnam, demonstrates his resourcefulness, virtue, endurance, and his love for America. He represents a paradoxical picture of whiteness where, though obviously not a non-white person, Rambo faces discrimination from the 'system' and seeks to reform it and recover the 'true' America. He is also a quintessential 'muscleman' hero showing the superiority of the white male body.
