How is the Thanksgiving dinner and their situation in general wearing on Mary Call in this chapter?

We see Mary Call snapping at her brothers and sisters in this chapter, and them snapping back at her at about Thanksgiving. Things like their clothes being threadbare bother her. At one point, she thinks she should just sit down and freeze to death.
