Connie and her mother don't get along. Connie's mother has very little good to say about her daughter, Connie's mother kept picking at her until Connie wished her mother was dead and she herself was dead and it was all over. Connie's mother walks around the house feeling a shell of her former self. Connie seems to remind mother that she too was once young and beautiful. Connie's mother seems to resent this in her daughter.
