Bill is a kind and generous English farmer, and a big man who is always cheerful. He trades Jacob apples, apple pie, and fresh venison in exchange for Jacob's jerky salts and spices. When people from the towns come looking for something to eat, Bill lets them work in his fields in exchange for food. Jacob likes and trusts Bill, but after the Stolfutz murders Bill decides they must use arms to defend the community, which Jacob disagrees with.
