Why does Miranda help to hide Marcus after the homeless man saved Sal?

In Chapter 48, Miranda is working in the main office again when two cops showed up, wanting to talk to Marcus. Miranda quickly calls her mother and gets Marcus from class, hiding in the dentist's office until her mother can convince the police that Marcus did nothing wrong.
