What are the circumstances in which Miranda becomes friends with Annemarie?

As a result of her break from Sal, Miranda befriends Annemarie, a girl in her class who has also had a falling out with her best friend, Julia. This is an important new relationship for Miranda, as she tells the reader. This is Miranda's first female friend even though she is in sixth grade.
