How does the author use foreshadowing in the scene where Marcus and Julia try to explain time travel to Miranda?

Miranda asks Marcus about time travel and they are joined by Julia. Julia seems to know as much, if not more, about time travel as Marcus. This will prove to be important later in the novel, foreshadowing important events for the conclusion of the story.
