Block A2 is described as an area that include rounded bubble tents with short fences, shrubs, and trees. They do not have running water, and Omar has to spend significant time fetching it every day. They get food every two weeks, which Fatuma turns into meals for them. Inside the tent are two mats - one for Hassan and one for Omar where they sleep. Omar also keeps his valuables, including his ration card in the tent. In the mornings, Omar prays outside his tent every day, and at night he looks out at the vast sky of stars, looking for solace, and sometimes prays to his parents. He plays with Hassan in the mud on the block, plays soccer and games with his friends, and even plays on the makeshift swingset. He studies with Jeri at night in the tent on his block, and eats with his family there. Later on, Fatuma acquires several goats that also live with them on the block.
