When Stars Are Scattered
How does Susana Martinez assist Omar with his education as noted in the memoir, When Stars Are Scattered?
.
.
Susana Martinez is a UN social worker from Spain, who is kind, friendly, and an advocate for Omar and his brother. The reader first meets Susana in Chapter Ten when she talks to Omar’s class, and then pulls Omar aside. She tells Omar she knows he is a hard worker but Omar is skeptical, as he wonders what she could truly know of refugee life. However, later on, Susana funds his uniform so he can go to high school, and then guides him through the process of applying for resettlement. Susana shows how if one works hard and leans on their community, they can forge their own path.
