Mamma constantly pressures Dimple to wear more make-up, and to dress more femininely. Her mother wants her to find an “I.H.H. . . . Ideal Indian Husband” and have children (2). She is part of the set-up between Dimple and Rishi, though acts oblivious when Dimple calls her upset. Since Dimple and her mother are always at odds, Dimple thinks that she is a disappointment to her mother.
