Why did Paul say that doctors don't give patients specific prognoses?

When a patient is diagnosed with a possible terminal illness, doctors don't give specific prognoses. It isn't that they can't give estimates. It is that each person has to find his own prognosis. Relying too much on statistics doesn't help patients face their mortality, and sometimes it interferes with the will to live.
