Why did Paul begin reading literature again in Part 2, Section 2?

As Paul faced his mortality and found no answers in scientific studies, he began reading literature again. He read anything by anyone who had ever written about mortality. He was searching for a vocabulary that would help him make sense of death, find a way to define himself, and begin to move forward again.
