Why did Lucy, Paul's girlfriend in Part 1, Section 2, cry when she viewed an EKG while studying at Paul's apartment?

Lucy correctly identified a fatal arrhythmia in one of the EKGs she was studying. When it dawned on her that the "practice EKG" had come from a patient who had not survived, it made her cry.
