Paul realized that there were two responses that he could have to the fact that his next recurrence of his death were coming closer. He could begin frantic activity to "live life to its fullest" by traveling, dining, or achieving unrealized ambitions. On the other hand cancer limited the amount of energy to do anything reducing the amount of activity that could be squeezed into a day. So he took the second response and plodded through his days.
