What did Paul believe setting aside literature would do for him?

Paul believed that setting aside literature would allow him to find answers that were not in books. He would be able to find a different sort of sublime, to forge relationships with suffering, and have the opportunity to follow the question of what made human life meaningful, even in the midst of death and decay.
