What You Have Heard Is True
Who is Monseñor Oscar Romero as noted in the memoir, What You Have Heard Is True?
.
.
Though not a major figure in Forché’s memoir, Monseñor Romero is one of the most important figures in El Salvador’s recent political history. Romero, born in El Salvador, was appointed Archbishop of San Salvador in 1977, the same year that Carolyn arrived in El Salvador. An outspoken critic of the government, who actively preached against the violence in the country, Romero was assassinated in 1980. He appears twice in person in Forché’s memoir.
