Where did Sunny grow up in the novel, What We Were Promised?

Before moving to Shanghai, Sunny grew up in the outskirts of Hefei village in the Anhui Province. She views it as a “city full of other cities’ leftovers…a city full of people who did not have the connections, star-up costs, or the guts to move to Shanghai, Guangzhou, or Beijing. Even its pollution was secondhand” (14).
