The novel's main setting is the state of Florida. While most of the action in Florida takes place on the island of Palm Beach, there are also a few parts of the novel that are set in the city of West Palm Beach. It is to West Palm Beach that Evie and the other guests of Le Mirage are evacuated when the hurricane comes. The most significant setting in West Palm Beach is the courthouse where Evis is taken to ride out the storm. It is also in this same courthouse that the inquest into Peter's death takes place.
