Margie Crotty is Evie's best friend from Queens before her time in Florida. After Evie's experience with the cruelty to the Jews, Evie remembers the way that Margie treated Ruthie Kalman because she is a Jew. When Evie returns to her grandmother's house and is talking to Margie for the first time since she has returned, Evie realizes that she no longer wants to be friends with the girl.
