What is What Hearts, Chapter 3 about?

In Chapter Three, Asa learns that his parents are divorcing and his mother is taking him to the beach in North Carolina. Asa thinks about how proud of Washington DC his father was. Asa looks at the city for the last time as his mother tells him about Dave, the man they will meet in North Carolina.
